Update Scooby 20th Anniversary
Dear Scooby Friends,
Our anniversary event has turned out to be a unique event because so many international partner organisations will attend that day. Therefore we have been very busy during the past months, to take advantage of this situation. Resulting in contact with Mr. Hammerstein, a Spanish member of the European Parliament representing the Spanish Green Party. And above all, Mr. Hammerstein is a member of the Euro Group for Animals. The all-party Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals was created in 1983 in the European Parliament to discuss European and International animal welfare and conservation issues and, where appropriate, take initiatives which could lead to legislation. Attended by representatives from most political groups and nationalities, this influential Intergroup provides a forum for MEPs for debate and for initiating action for a wide range of animal welfare and conservation issues. The Intergroup meets every month during the European Parliament Plenary sessions in Strasbourg. For more information please visit their website: http://www.eurogroupforanimals.org/
Mr. Hammerstein is vice-president of the Euro Group, and we invited him to our event, to discuss with him how to improve animal welfare in Spain and to offer him a manifest. He was very enthusiastic and was willing to accept the invitation. We hope that his schedule will still allow him to keep his word, meaning that the problems with the welfare of cats and dogs in Spain, and galgos in particular, is being taken very seriously and this could be a breakthrough in our way to improve the conditions in our country. Therefore we would like to ask you again to come to our event and to bring your dog with you if possible. Meanwhile we will do all we can to get publicity.
Maria Daines, who was so very kind to accept our invitation for doing a benefit concert, is rehearsing as we speak to be fully prepared for a 45 (!) minute performance. Besides that she made some of her cd’s available for sale so all the proceeds will be going to Scooby. So we would like to thank Maria and Paul again for this generous offer.
Last but not least: on our event there will be an original pastel of Greyhounds and Galgos for sale. For 250 euros you could be the owner of an original artwork, 80cm x 55cm, mounted and framed, made by Richard Arttwise (see picture at his site http://www.arttist.com/arttportraits/), and all proceeds will go to Scooby.
